I invented a word today and am very proud of myself. The word is ostrichism and it’s a new ideology similar to ostracism, but instead of a society ignoring me, I’m going to ignore society. I know the concept of burying one’s head in the sand is counterproductive to helping promote change and I feel bad about that.
I just need a way to block out the noise for a while and the idea of three feet of sand surrounding my eyes and ears sounds nice right now. I also feel like my faint voice shouting into the vacuum or at people that I consider to be friends isn’t doing anything. I can’t make people believe what I believe nor am I delusional enough to think that people in my sphere will change because of what I say.
I do think there are more of us who want something different and who will think for themselves and inform themselves and vote accordingly. I will vote in November. I encourage you to as well. Let me know how it goes.
Please text me your thoughts on entertainment and pictures of your grandbabies and weddings. I’ll miss that stuff.
Damn. I conducted some half-assed internet research, and someone stole my new word idea a long time ago. Ostrichism has been around since the mid-19th century. It was even popular during the British women’s suffrage movement (in a derogatory manner against the anti-suffragists). Sigh. I’m part of the problem…
